840,000 Mainland Tourists flock to Hong Kong
Tue May 07, 2019 9:49 pm
Last week, over 840,000 mainland tourists visited Hong Kong during the "Golden week break", this amount of people was the highest for the past 10 years, due to new cross border transportation methods, including the new rail system and Hong Kong - Zhuhai - Macau Bridge.
The new statistics suggest that it had brought benefits to Hong Kong's economy, increased consumer spending and businesses to local shops, as most mainland tourists tend to have shopping trips.
However, this number of visitors also reflect new social issues, it makes Hong Kong more overcrowded in low density commercial areas, increasing waste and worsening noise pollution.
To conclude, despite more mainland tourists would greatly improve Hong Kong's economy by tourism, if this number of mainland tourists increase rapidly each year, it would also raise more social issues.
